Wanted Dead Or Alive

Landmark CBS-TV Western series (1958-1961), that shot Steve McQueen to instant stardom. McQueen played bounty hunter Josh Randall, a man of few words (Steve's idea from the start!), and quite handy with his favorite weapon of choice, a "Mare's Laig" --a 30-40 sawed off carbine. McQueen gave up the series shortly after he finished a 'little' film called "The Magnificent Seven" (UA-1960). NOTE" The pilot episode, "The Bounty Hunter", aired on March 7, 1958, as a half-hour segment of the "Track-down" TV Western series, starring Robert Culp as Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman (CBS-1957-1959). In the episode, McQueen explains his unique weapon to Hoby Gilman, and why it's called a "Mare's Laig": "Because it kicks at both ends!" (Wright King portrayed Josh Randall's sidekick, Jason Nichols, during the second half of season No. 2 (Jan. 30th to May 21st, 1960).
