The landmark, Technicolor blockbuster classic (MGM-1939), starring Clark Gable (Rhett Butler), Vivien Leigh (Scarlett O'Hara), Olivia de Havilland (Melanie Hamilton), Leslie Howard (Ashley Wilkes), Thomas Mitchell (Gerald O'Hara), Hattie McDaniel (Mammy), Butterfly McQueen (Prissy), Victor Jory (Jonas Wilkerson), Rand Brooks (Charles Hamilton), George Reeves (Stuart Tarleton), Harry Davenport (Dr. Meade), Ona Munson (Belle Watling), and Ward Bond (Tom, A Yankee Captain). The entire production (220 mins.) cost $4,250,000 to make, but had earned more than $70 million by 1967. NBC aired the movie in two parts, in 1976, paying $5 million for the one-shot showing. The results were astounding: a 47.6 Nielsen Rating, drawing 130 million viewers.
